It’s broken down into step by step phases breaking down the move one month out to the big day. Whether you’re working with the pros or braving the challenge yourself we hope you find this list useful. In the meantime you can print this page off and use refer to it as and when needed.

What to do before you move.

1 month before moving:

Back-up all vital computer files
Retrieve medical files from your local doctors and dentists
Be sure to have hotels booked as you travel to your chosen location

2 weeks before moving:

Get in touch with utility company providers (gas, water, electricity) and make sure you’re disconnected
Subscribe to utility providers at your new location

1 week before moving:

Pick up relevant items from shops, execute repairs, small and large
Get in touch with the postal service and ask them redirect all mail to your location
Label all boxes with fragile items
Label boxes according to their designated room. This includes kitchen, bathroom and lounge
If packing on your own finish all boxes with the exception of items you’ll need for the last week

1 day before moving:

Get in touch with your removals team to confirm arrangements for the following day
Clean & towel dry the inside of your refrigerator and disconnect appliances
Drain all fuel from your mower
Safely dispose of pressure pack cans & flammable fluids
Empty gas cylinder and clean barby
Take apart swings, play items and other children’s fixtures
Clear out and clean rubbish bins
Dismantle your TV antenna (if you still have one) and drain hoses
Bundle up your tools and disconnect electronics
Relax with peace of mind as you enjoy a leaving party with friends

It’s Moving day: (carry with you)

Have the keys of your new premises to hand
Hard and soft copies Map of new town directions to your location
The contact details of the removalist company and driver
Cash, bank and ID papers
Any sentimental photos, curios and other items
Personal hygiene items such as toothbrush, paste, shampoo, etc.
Double check with the removals team that any items are not transported by mistake
Finally, carry out one last spot check on the house to ensure no items are left behind
